About  Alexander Tzavellas

Music and academia were part of daily life growing up in a family of educators in Scotland — an environment that sparked an early curiosity about how things work, and just as much joy in sharing that understanding with others.

That curiosity found its outlet at the piano. Recognised as a musical prodigy by age 11, and composing and exploring music technology by 14, Alexander was engaging with music at an advanced level from a very young age — a foundation that would eventually carry him from the Athens Conservatoire in Greece to further study in Royal Scottish Conservatoire in Scotland, immersed among some of the leading figures in music pedagogy and performance.

Between these formative years of study, two years of service in the Armed Forces added an unexpected chapter — reaching the rank of Master Sergeant and taking responsibility for administrating 365 staff, an experience that shaped a discipline and organisational rigour that has stayed with him ever since.

What followed was a career that moved fluidly between performing, composing, and teaching — never quite choosing one over the others, but instead finding that each strengthened the rest. Establishing an IB Music department from the ground up in Athens, later founding and directing his own music production company, and eventually training teachers internationally as an IB Workshop Leader all grew from the same underlying instinct: a restlessness to keep learning, and a drive to pass that learning on.

Having travelled the world several times over, Alexander has developed a particular sensitivity to communication across cultures — an interest in how people learn differently, and how education can be made to feel familiar and accessible regardless of background. This shows up as much in his teaching practice as in his research interests, which span psychology, pedagogy, andragogy, technology, and business.

As an artist, Alexander composes across styles, fusing elements from around the world into what he calls his "universal music" — a fitting reflection, perhaps, of a career built the same way: many disciplines, brought together into one voice.
